Summer wrist warmers are just the thing if you live in the more temperate regions of the world where summer evenings can often be a bit chilly. Likewise early summer days and getting into Mid to late August (in the Northern Hemisphere) the days can be cooler but not quite cold enough to wrap up in woollies, cardigans and sweaters. These lovely accessories are just the thing to give just a little extra protection without making you hot and uncomfortable
Simply lacy and amazingly quick to make, they look both smart and pretty. You'll have them done in a jiffy
And if the instructions are clear as mud to you - scroll down to the video version to watch how to make them.
basically really all you need to do is choose a lacy stitch that you like and make a tube. Then don't forget to leave a gap for your thumb when you sew them up.
But if you like to have a proper set of instructions - here they are below:
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet (UK double crochet)
sl st = slip stitch
You will need double knitting yarn, preferably cotton, but the ones I made in the photos are made from acrylic
You will also need a 4mm hook
Begin with a slip knot. Make sure the knot tightens from the cut end
Then make 26 ch
Row 1
sc into 2nd ch from hook, *make 2ch, miss 2ch, sc in next ch *
Repeat from * to * to the end
Row 2
1ch, turn. sc into sc of previous row
*2ch, sc into next sc of previous row*
repeat from * to * to end
Repeat 2nd row 22 more times
TO JOIN
1ch, turn. sc into sc of previous row
Fold your wristwarmer in half by bringing bottom edge up and behind (see video below) sl st into equivalent place on bottom edge, 2ch
sc, sl st into bottom edge, 2ch
(In effect you are doing another row and slip stitching into bottom edge at the same time)
Now make a space for your thumb:
sc into next sc, 2ch
*sc, sl st into bottom edge, 2ch* repeat from * to * to end
If you like you can add your favourite edging to the top and bottom edges
