Classic crochet shell stitch is a very pretty and surprisingly easy stitch pattern to learn.
There are many variations of this stitch. Here are just 2 examples: An closed shell stitch and an open shell stitch which has a more lacy look

ch = chain
st = stitch
sts = stitches
sc = single crochet (UK double crochet)
dc = double crochet (UK treble)
tch = turning chain
Make a length of chain of a multiple of 6ch +1
ROW 1
Make 1sc into 2nd ch from hook *Miss 2ch Make 5dc into next ch Miss 2ch Make 1sc into next ch*
Repeat from * to * to end
3ch, turn
ROW 2
The tch counts as the first stitch.
Make 2dc into the first sc Miss 2dc and make 1sc into middle dc *Miss 2dc and make 5dc into next sc Miss 2dc and make 1sc into middle dc*
Repeat from * to * to end, finishing with miss 2dc, make 3dc into last sc
1ch turn
ROW 3
Make 1sc into first dc Miss 2dc and make 5dc into first sc *Miss 2dc and make 1sc into middle dc Miss 2dc and make 5dc into next sc*
Repeat from * to * to end, finishing with miss 2dc and make 1sc into tch
