To make this cute crochet baby bonnet you will need a small amount of double knitting (UK weight) yarn and a 4mm hook
Make it all in one colour, or use a contrast colour for the shell edging and the ties as in the photo
INSTRUCTIONS
Make 14 chain
ROW 1
Work 3 double crochet (UK trebles) into 4th chain from hook.
Work double crochet into each chain until there are 2 chain left
Work 3 double crochet into next chain.
Work 1 double crochet into last chain (16 stitches including turning chain)
3chain, turn
ROW 2
Miss one stitch
Work double crochet into remaining stitches
Work 1 double crochet into top of turning chain
3 chain, turn.
Repeat row 2 six more times
Next work 14 double crochet down side of work (Count turning chain as one double crochet)
Work 12 double crochet across top
Work 14 treble down other side.
Work 7 more rows of double crochet across these 40 sitiches
NEXT ROW
Work one double crochet into the first stitch (ie the one you would normally miss, thus making an increase of one stitch)
Work one double crochet into each of next 2 stitches
Work 2 double crochet into next stitch
* Work 1 double crochet into each of next 5 stitches. 2 double crochet into next stitch
Repeat from * to ** to end of row
1chain, turn
SHELL EDGING
1 single crochet (UK double crochet) into first stitch,
* miss 2, 5 double crochet into next stitch, miss 2, 1 single crochet into next stitch **
Repeat from 8 to ** to end of row, working last single crochet into turning chain.
Fasten off
TIES
ROW 1
Make 50 chain
With right side facing, work single crochet along side neck, back neck and side neck again, then make 51 more chain
ROW 2
1 single crochet into 2nd chain from hook
Work single crochet along chain then along single crochet of previous row and then along final chain
Fasten off
Darn in ends with a large blunt needle.
